Are you a tinnitus sufferer? Then I'm sure you've probably noticed that most therapeutic treatments for tinnitus can be quit costly. Surgical intervention might even be necessary for some. Fortunately, there are other treatment choices that are less intrusive and easier on the pocket. One such option is through the supplementation with tinnitus herbs.

Most of these herbs are not expensive and can easily be obtained from your local grocery or health food store.

Avena Sativa: Peripheral vascular problems can sometimes be a cause for tinnitus, so it may be beneficial to lower cholesterol levels with the use of this herb. Some research has also shown this herb to improve depression and decreased energy.

Rosemary: This herb has been known to be advantageous to those with high blood pressure. The properties contained in rosemary has been shown to increase the functionality of the middle ear by strengthening the blood vessels. Because tinnitus can be caused by high blood pressure, controlling blood pressure should be the number one priority. If you suffer from high blood pressure, the treatment should be directed only by your doctor. You should get your doctor's approval before taking any herbal remedy, especially one that can affect your blood pressure.

Gingko Biloba is the most common herb used for treating the symptoms of tinnitus. Increased blood and oxygen flow to the brain is the main action of Gingko Biloba. Pregnant Women and persons taking blood thinners should not take Gingko Biloba without their doctor's permission. You should consult with your physician before treating yourself with any vitamin or herbal preparation.

Sesame: Sesame seeds have been known to be beneficial in helping to improve dizziness, blurred vision, and tinnitus.

Black Cohosh: This is an old Native American remedy that has been used for the treatment of various ailments, including tinnitus. Not only has it been used to treat tinnitus, but it can also be used to decrease inflammation and has sedating properties. The sedative effects are an advantage since some symptoms of tinnitus can be exacerbated or caused by stress.

Cornus: This is an herb that is taken from a tree found mostly in isolated regions of China and Korea. This herb is used in traditional chinese medicine and dates all the way back to over 2,000 years. Used alone, Cornus doesn't fall under the category of being a tinnitus herb. It has to be prepared with other herbs in order to be effective. Chinese Yam and Foxglove are mostly used in the preparation of Cornus for use as a tinnitus herb. An experienced herbalist should be responsible for mixing these preparations.

Ligustrum: Some will benefit from this herb if they suffer from dizziness, low back pain, and tinnitus caused by stress and anxiety.

These tinnitus herbs are only just a handful of the many herbal formulas that can assist in the improvement of tinnitus. See your doctor first, before you start your own treatment plan.
